Maria Gema Rollan Gallego
Maria Rollan is a dedicated and passionate educator committed to creating hands-on, engaging science experiences for her students. She teaches at Washington High School, where she works with classes of up to 30 students, many of whom have limited access to science materials and enrichment opportunities. Her teaching focuses on building curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity—particularly in the areas of energy, electricity, and renewable resources.
As a recent participant in the KidWind summer workshop and an upcoming attendee at the National Science Teaching Association (NTSA) conference in Minneapolis, she continually seeks out professional development to bring cutting-edge, real-world science into her classroom. She plans to use the NSHSS grant to cover expenses related to these workshops and to purchase materials that will allow her students to work on energy-focused, project-based learning activities. Through her work, she hopes to inspire a new generation of learners to see science not only as a subject—but as a path to discovery and innovation.
NSHSS is providing two (2) $1,000 grants to enhance STEAM-related activities, innovation, and classroom excellence for teachers in a STEAM field. Funds may be used for supplies, materials, field trips or other resources to enhance the delivery of their courses.
