Mary Aalbue is a professional educator and theatre artist committed to the development of creativity through the arts. She has a BFA in Theatre from the University at Buffalo, where she received an award for academic achievement for her research abroad in London, and an MFA in Theatre from Long Island University. She subsequently received an Advanced Certificate in Educational Theatre at Adelphi University and her NYS Theatre Certification (PK–12).

Ms. Aalbue is currently the Theater and Reading teacher at BHSMS and department head of the art department. She is an Arthur Miller Fellow and literacy coordinator at her school. Ms. Aalbue founded the theatre program at BHSMS, designing its curriculum and the positive artist community that exists within it.

She extends the students' artistic experience with programs like the Metropolitan Opera Access initiative, and she organizes excursions to view Broadway productions. Her mentorship has opened up valuable opportunities to students, such as mentoring a MoMA Teens applicant whose work was subsequently showcased at the Museum of Modern Art and coordinating placements for students to engage in behind-the-scenes work on Broadway productions.

Her past work-as Theatre Counselor at Camp Winnebago, as Actor Educator with Children's Stage Adventures, and in leading youth theatre at both C2 Education and Sid Jacobson JCC-showcases her dedication to arts education that goes back many years.

She has additional certifications in College Counseling (NACAC) and Trauma-Informed Resilient Schools (Starr Commonwealth). Mrs. Aalbue remains dedicated to young people's empowerment through theatre and continues to expand opportunities for students to create, explore, and thrive in the arts.

Grants Awarded in 2025: School Club Cash

Clubs and extracurricular activities allow students to develop leadership skills and find ways to contribute meaningfully to their community. Club advisors and sponsors often support these clubs with their own funds or through fundraising activities. To support our outstanding educators and the clubs they oversee, NSHSS is giving two (2) high school educators a $500 grant to help provide additional opportunities to their student clubs.
