Amy Hwang, a senior at Glenelg High School, studies flute with Leah Arsenault-Barrick of the National Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra (NYO-USA), an NPR “From the Top” Fellow, a Kennedy Center Summer Music Institute Fellow, a National Symphony Orchestra Youth Chamber Fellow, and Principal Flutist of the Senior All State Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra (BSYO), and the Howard County High School G/T Orchestra. Amy has appeared on NPR, at Carnegie Hall, and on the Kennedy Center’s show “NSO@Home.” She has also been featured as a soloist with the United States Army Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, and twice with the Columbia Orchestra and BSYO. To spread her passion for music, she founded the Do Re Mi Project (, a nonprofit that has provided 10,000+ free online music lessons and thousands in scholarships to kids around the world. Amy also holds a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo and interns at the Columbia Orchestra. She will be a freshman at Harvard and a Masters student at New England Conservatory (NEC) as part of the Harvard-NEC dual degree program in the fall.
