Carlos Andrés Calderón Rodas is a dedicated and accomplished individual driven by a passion for healthcare, leadership, and community service. As a participant in Medicine Programs at Yale University and American University, Carlos engaged in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) research, shadowed physicians, and visited hospitals and medical schools. His shadowing experiences include lipo sculptures, labioplasty, gluteal lipo injection, abdominals, and a DBS implantation for Parkinson’s disease. He founded and directed SMILE (Students Murals Inspiring Love & Elation)—painting uplifting murals in pediatric hospitals and schools—and the 1st Science Olympiad at his school. He is the president of the National Honor Society, director of Funday (teaching English to little kids), Logistics/Events Manager of the Arts Society, and committee president at Models of United Nations. Carlos fluently speaks Spanish and English and is conversational in Mandarin.
