Rohan Tyagi

Rohan Tyagi is a passionate environmental advocate, researcher, and student leader dedicated to driving meaningful change. As the youngest-ever appointed Hazardous Materials Commissioner for Contra Costa County, he has worked on equity-based pipeline legislation and emergency response planning for schools near hazardous sites. He also chairs Sustainable Leaders in Action, mobilizing youth to advocate for environmental policy, leading to oil drilling bans impacting over 150,000 residents.

Beyond policy, Rohan has conducted biochemistry research at Purdue University, designing fungal enzyme inhibitors, and aquaponics research at UC Davis, developing sustainable coral aquaculture systems. He was the former vice-chair of the Brentwood Youth Commission, organizing city-wide events and scholarship fundraisers. He also serves on the Youth Advisory Council for Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, advocating for social justice and youth legal rights.

Rohan is also an Editorial Board Member for Youth Engaged 4 Change (YE4C) under Youth.gov, where he collaborates with federal policymakers to develop youth-focused federal resources and opportunities. At school, he co-founded and co-presides over Science Olympiad and serves as President of Project Climate, leading sustainability efforts on campus.

Through activism, research, and leadership, Rohan strives to build a more just and sustainable future.
