Thomas McKinney
Thomas is a leader in his community, with work that spans several subjects. He hosts community cleanups in his town, encouraging neighbors to collect litter in municipal parks and schools. Over 800 participants have banded together to collect more than 4,000 pounds of trash. He is also a regular participant in other cleanups in his area, notably working with nonprofits SoundWaters and Greenwich Green and Clean.
Thomas is the captain of his high school's Science Club, an organization dedicated to participating in the yearly National Science Bowl while spreading the infectious love of scientific subjects. He has been the captain for two years and has overseen a significant change in the club's dynamic, prioritizing inclusivity and cohesion.
Thomas participates in his school's top orchestral group, performing at least six times a year as the viola stand leader.
Thomas also finds himself in other places, whether it be through his persistent work with food pantries or assistance with several other clubs, such as leading an elementary school outreach program for the school Chess Club. In his free time, Thomas enjoys studying train systems and listening to classical music.
