CIA STEM Camp 2022

NSHSS and the Central Intelligence Agency hosted an amazing opportunity for rising junior and senior high school members who were passionate about exploring STEM education in college and a curiosity about the application of STEM within the CIA!

For this event, hundreds of members applied, but only a limited number of NSHSS scholars were selected to participate in a STEM Camp at the CIA Headquarters.

On August 4, 2022, 27 well-deserving NSHSS scholars participated in a 1-day, full-immersion CIA STEM Camp at the Central Intelligence Agency Headquarters in Langley, VA.

Participants learned firsthand about the inner workings of the Agency and the Intelligence Community through engaging STEM challenges like extracting DNA and conducting fingerprinting. They also heard Directorate Briefings, and participated in a resume building workshop. The students spent the afternoon touring the CIA headquarters including the Original Headquarters Building Lobby where the seal and the wall of honor reside, the Abbottabad model (a miniature of Bin Laden's compound used for planning to capture him,) and the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) museum filled with historical CIA artifacts, exhibits, and collections. The day ended with a visit to the CIA Store to stock up on CIA swag and goodies, before heading back to Washington D.C. to attend Scholar's Day!
