Mauricio Marquez

Mauricio Marquez is a senior at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Illinois and will attend Marquette University to study Mechanical Engineering as part of the Engineering Scholars Program. As a first-generation college student, Mauricio has balanced rigorous academics with leadership, athletics, work, and community involvement throughout high school.

He served as a leader and president for the Latinx Conference at Saint Ignatius, helping organize one of the school’s largest student-led events and creating an inclusive environment for hundreds of students from across Chicago. Mauricio was also a captain of his soccer team and participated in organizations including the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and ALAS.

Outside of school, Mauricio works in his family’s businesses, where he has managed logistics, customer communication, and production operations while developing problem-solving and engineering skills through hands-on technical work. He also participated in the ACE Mentor Program, where he explored engineering, architecture, and construction through real-world design challenges and mentorship from industry professionals.

Mauricio hopes to pursue a career designing energy-efficient systems that improve community accessibility and quality of life.
