Molly Sharma
Molly is a sophomore and sees herself as a lawyer advocating for social justice and environmental protection. She initiated the hydroponic garden initiative at her high school and recruited volunteers to help it grow and maintain. As a result of the work of 18 volunteers who worked tirelessly to grow lettuce, they could grow enough lettuce to provide the school cafeteria with fresh, green produce to serve the students during school lunches. The idea came from her growing concern about food sustainability, waste, and the carbon footprint of food production. After researching hydroponic systems and speaking with experts, she learned that it is possible to grow food indoors using very little water and in small spaces. As a result of the hydroponic garden, the students now have a greater appreciation for where their food comes from, as well as the environmental impact of traditional agriculture.
Molly's passion for advocacy and service also shines through in her volunteer work as a Teen Court attorney, City library volunteer, Girl Scout camp counselor, Best Buddies Ambassador, and PTSA Board member. Her commitment to leadership, sustainability, and excellence will continue to impact her community positively.
