Uriah Griffin-Shaw

Uriah Myles Griffin-Shaw is an inspiring future educator from Portsmouth, Virginia, dedicated to fostering growth through both mathematics and movement. Uriah built a strong academic foundation while homeschooled through Tidewater Collegiate Academy on the Virginia Wesleyan University campus in Virginia Beach, graduating with a 3.37 GPA. Now attending Virginia State University (VSU), Uriah is pursuing a major in Middle School Mathematics Education with a minor in Dance Education.

Deeply committed to campus life and creative expression, Uriah is an active member of the Code Blue organization at VSU. This passion for movement is supported by 13 years of rigorous training at the Maureen School of Dance, with a specialization in tap, jazz, and hip-hop. Beyond the studio and classroom, Uriah is driven by a deep spirit of service and regularly volunteers with Cathedral of Faith COGIC to help feed families in need in Chesapeake.

Receiving the Future Educator Scholarship from the National Society of High School Scholars will directly support Uriah's mission to become a transformative educator. By blending logical mathematical instruction with the creative discipline of dance, Uriah aims to build inclusive, high-energy classrooms that empower the next generation of students to reach their full potential.
