Success Chalk

Daniel and Gabriel Vasquez are juniors at Ronald W. Reagan/Doral High School in Doral, Florida. Not only are Daniel and Gabriel twins, but each has won the Christi Fraga Youth Leadership Award, the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Shining Scholars’ Unstoppable Scholar Award, and the BizNovator Camp scholarship. Daniel and Gabriel believe that in order to best serve one’s community, it is imperative to identify a need and align it with one’s interest in order to alleviate the void.

Daniel noticed that children in his community lacked access to books, so he founded the organization For the Love of Reading. He began collecting books and working with his local YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. For the Love of Reading has donated over 2,300 books and more than 200 magazines to 11 different organizations. While Daniel serves the youth, Gabriel focuses on improving the lives of senior citizens. Gabriel founded Silver Tunes for Golden Memories, which hones students’ musical abilities and provides seniors with live music simultaneously. Gabriel invites his peers and fellow musicians to participate in providing music and comedy, organizing arts and crafts activities, and holding poetry readings.

The Vasquez twins both aspire to attend Florida International University and study electrical and computer engineering. Together, Daniel and Gabriel have accumulated 1,400 volunteer hours, and the brothers still have their senior year ahead of them.

NSHSS congratulates Daniel and Gabriel on all of their accomplishments so far!
