Brandy Rood

Brandy B. Rood, Mrs "B." as she is called by her students, is in her 23rd year at Humble High School. She holds Bachelor Degrees in both Theatre and Spanish, and graduated from the University of Houston with a MFA in Theatre. Mrs. B has appeared on Houston stages in a wide-range of roles and has directed plays at various theaters in Houston and Austin.

Mrs. B is the lead director at HHS where she directs 6 play productions each year while teaching 4 levels of Theatre including Theatre Arts 1, JV Theatre, Varsity Theatre, International Baccalaureate Theatre and Theatre Productions. Mrs. B takes her own experiences in the theatre and uses them in her roles as lead director and teacher. She enjoys teaching her students how to channel their creative spirit into acting, directing, playwriting and makeup. She derives so much joy every year in introducing her students to a variety of traditions that create a tight-knit community of thespians-including the annual 24 Hour Theatre Project, the fall trip to Renaissance Festival, the Evening of Original10 Minute Plays, and many weekends spent together attending plays. In addition to all of this Mrs. B has created an award-winning internationally ranked Slam Poetry team and she was named as the Humble ISD Teacher of the year in 2016.

This NSHSS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Teaching Grant is for educators who serve in rural areas, diverse student populations, or are actively promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives in their school or greater community.
