Brandy Rood
Mrs "B." as she is called by her students, is a native Texan that grew up in the Houston area. She holds Bachelor Degrees in both Theatre and Spanish, and graduated from the University of Houston with a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre. Mrs. B has appeared on Houston stages for over 25 years in a wide-range of roles. Some of her favorite roles include Ophelia in Hamlet, Chrissie in Dancing at Lughnasa and Laura in Golem. Mrs. B has also directed plays at various theaters in Houston and Austin and has spent plenty of time backstage too.
Mrs. B takes her own experiences in the theatre and uses them in her role as lead director and drama instructor at HHS. She enjoys teaching her students how to channel their creative spirit into acting, directing, and makeup. She derives so much joy every year in introducing her students to a variety of traditions that create a tight-knit community of thespians-including the annual 24 Hour Theatre Project, the fall trip to the Renaissance Festival, the Evening of Ten-Minute Plays, and many weekends spent together attending live plays. In addition to all of the customary theatre instruction, Mrs. B has also created an award-winning Slam Poetry team that highlights both theatrical and artistic skills.
