Sean Pang Earns 2019 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year Award

Date: Tuesday, February 11, 2020

Sean Pang was one of 10 recipients honored with the NSHSS 2019 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year Award. The $1,000 grant gives notoriety and recognition to outstanding educators across the U.S., and Pang's active and diverse involvement in helping students realize their potential displayed exemplary performance as an educator.

Pang is an English and media arts teacher at Rockville High School (RHS) who offers experience in English, journalism, creative writing, television production, as well as academic intervention for at-risk students. Outside from the classroom, Pang sponsors five different clubs at RHS and advises an award-winning literary arts magazine called "Echoes." Pang is also involved in a college-readiness program at Montgomery College where he helps students with college essay-writing and SAT prep.

Pang has plans to use the $1,000 award to produce a film documentary that spotlights important yet under-acknowledged financial issues throughout Montgomery County. He hopes that the film's exposure will help raise money for businesses and shelters in the county, that in turn, help students who face financial struggles.
