Dustin Liang
Dustin Liang is a current senior at Sharon High School. He was diagnosed with T-ALL Leukemia on June 4th, 2023, and was to undergo two years of treatment that included chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies, and blood infusions. He was recommended to stop swimming, a sport he had done since he was three, and would likely have to take a gap year from school. Constant headaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach bloating, brain fog, and lack of appetite were among the many treatment side effects that he experienced. Despite these setbacks, he has done his best not to let cancer stop him.
Through hard work and sheer determination, he has taken and completed various online and in-person classes required to graduate. He has also felt indebted to his community, who have supported him wholeheartedly through these tough times, causing him to co-found the organization dustinstrong.us. So far, Dustin and the organization have helped promote cancer awareness, organized a blood drive, participated in SAA-RI, and organized a charity run for Dana-Farber.
The NSHSS Nobel Academic Excellence Scholarship recognizes high school juniors and seniors making a positive impact on society, and how college will help these students continue to make an impact for years to come.
