Jaehee Yoon
My name is Jaehee Yoon, but I normally go by Jae. I am currently a junior at D.H. Conley and have been a student leader for a non-profit organization called Love A Sea Turtle for the past seven years. Being a part of this group has deepened my passion for the betterment of the environment and have strived to make an impact. Since then, I have not only grown as an individual, but I have also founded my own initiatives, made an impact on my community, and mentored other youth leaders. I am the founder of my own initiative called Better Bag Solution and also the co-founder and help co lead the umbrella organization called Plastic Free NC. My initiative, Better Bag Solution, is a project focused on the harmful effects of single-use plastic bags, finding safer alternatives, and is dedicated to educating the general public. Since making my first appearance on the news in 2016, I have united local restaurants and business across eastern North Carolina, collaborated with organizations to host environmental events, and recruited like-minded leaders.
The NSHSS Foundation encourages environmental stewardship among high school students globally through the Foundation Earth Day Award. Students submit their environmental project they are working on currently, and provide details on the impact of the project in their communities and how it will impact the future.
