Laila Ali
Laila is the founder and president of the National Honors Society at her high school, where she leads meetings, provides college aid opportunities to low-income students, and hosts fundraisers/canned food drives to give back to her community. Laila has transformed her school community by starting numerous other clubs on campus, such as Speech and Debate and Model United Nations. Laila is passionate about creating opportunities for her peers, empowering them with knowledge, and uplifting her community. Laila is also the founder and president of the Asian American Association. She hosted the first-ever Culture Day at her high school, spreading awareness of over 30 cultures to over 1000 students.
Laila serves as an intern to the Mayor of Modesto and has interned at her local District Attorney’s Office. Laila was one of two girls to represent California at the Girls Nation Summer program, where she campaigned for president. Laila’s patriotism has won her the Daughter of America Good Citizen award; she also won the Oratorical competition at Girls State. Laila plans to major in political science and government and become a legislator who advocates for the rights of marginalized groups and works toward social progress.
The NSHSS Nobel Academic Excellence Scholarship recognizes high school juniors and seniors making a positive impact on society, and how college will help these students continue to make an impact for years to come.
