Riesling Liu

Riesling Liu is a junior at the Awty International School in Houston, Texas. She is a two-time national gold medalist in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Riesling is a reporter for her school newspaper, a student advisor to the PBS News Student Reporting Labs, and a writer for the Teen Magazine. She is passionate about education and climate disparities affecting the youth. As a Houston Mayor's Youth Council member, she advocates for children's rights in the city through engaging and participating in the decision-making process with city officials. She is also a Youth Outreach Leader for the Houston Sunrise Movement organization, where she spearheads youth climate initiatives, such as making public transit more accessible in low-income areas and conducting teach-ins at various high schools to educate students about the detrimental effects of climate change in their communities.
Along with writing, Riesling has an interest in entrepreneurship. She and her team placed 2nd at the 2024 Junior Achievement National Student Leadership Summit with their student-run company, Locked – a productivity app to help students manage their time and work more efficiently. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at the Houston Wildlife Center.
