Sofia Arancibia
Sofia Arancibia is a freshman attending the University of California, Davis. Engineering has been her interest since she was 10 years old, and she was a dedicated member of her high school’s Engineering Club for eight years. Her passion led her to UC Davis, where she continues to study engineering and explores the field of biomedical engineering. Since she began her education at college, she has become a NACME scholar and a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society. Her goal is to make medical devices that are accessible to low-income and minority communities that have been historically overlooked.
Sofia’s other interests outside of engineering include playing the guitar and technical theater. She was a part of her high school’s Stagecrew for two years and is currently a Student Stagehand in college. She hopes to continue her hobbies in the future alongside her career in engineering.
The NSHSS College Freshmen Scholarship celebrates and recognizes students who are taking the initiative of starting college and taking a big step towards their personal and career goals.
