Aja Brown

Aja Brown is a model (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math teacher at The Metropolitan Soundview High School in the Bronx, N.Y. As a Black female science teacher in an urban school, she holds the important responsibility of inspiring her students to develop a love for science and introducing them to the broader world of STEM. Aja is dedicated to creating and providing an exceptional STEM curriculum through hands-on activities and cross-curricular projects. Her teaching philosophy evolves each year, influenced by her incoming students and professional learning experiences, but is consistently grounded in the belief that students learn best through kinesthetic engagement. Although she can explain concepts numerous times, she finds that activities where concepts come to life are far more tangible and relatable for students. Embracing this ideology, Aja actively seeks opportunities to learn innovative, student-centered pedagogical approaches and acquire valuable resources. She is committed to enhancing her curriculum, believing it will not only equip students with essential life skills but also prepare them for the demands of today's workforce.
