Gloria Masterton
Gloria Masterton is a Social Studies teacher at Legion Collegiate Academy in Rock Hill, SC. Gloria is a proud graduate of Grand Valley State University, receiving her BA in Social Studies and Secondary Education. In addition, she also earned her Master's of Education specializing in Multicultural Contexts in Education from the University of South Carolina.
During her career, Gloria has taught Government, Economics, United States History, and Sociology. She is passionate about making Social Studies relevant to all her students’ prior knowledge and life experiences and truly helping build the leaders of tomorrow. Currently, Gloria leads as the Social Studies Department Chair, Student Council and Yearbook advisor, and faculty mentor and evaluator for her colleagues. Gloria was also named LCA 2022 Teacher of the Year for her continued dedication to her students and her educational accomplishments.
Outside of the classroom, Gloria has served on the South Carolina Instructional Materials Review Panel for U.S. Government & Advanced Placement, represented South Carolina at the Jumpstart National Educator Conference on Financial Literacy, and sponsored two students in the national competition of National History Day. In her spare time, she enjoys watching Michigan football, being outdoors with her dog Rosie, and spending time with her friends/family.
The Educator of the Year Awards are presented annually to exemplary educators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preparing students for success in college and in life. These awardees model best practices in teaching or administration inside and outside of the classroom, are peer role models, and demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in education. Any NSHSS Educator teaching high school has the opportunity to apply.
