Mary Fish
Ms. Mary Fish has been a science educator for 34 years. She taught middle school science for 17 years and high school Biotechnology and Honors Biology for 17 years at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, Florida. Ms. Fish consistently develops many innovative and exciting units and labs for the Biotechnology Academy courses and coordinates the Science Fair for the school sending over 50 Biotechnology 3 students to the county fair almost every year with a number of them advancing to the State Fair. Ms. Fish has started at her school and has sponsored for a number of years many national STEM competitions- HOSA, Science Olympiad, SECME, Girls Who Code, and American Rocketry Competition. Ms. Fish and a team of students were awarded the MIT Lemelson Inventeam Grant in 2019 and were selected to apply again this year as an Excite Award Finalist. Ms. Fish is always striving to provide a great deal of STEM opportunities to all students at Spanish River High School.
Experiential learning programs can stimulate academic inquiry by promoting interdisciplinary learning, civic engagement, career development, cultural awareness, leadership, and other professional and intellectual skills. NSHSS is giving three (3) high school educators $1,000 grants to help provide experiential opportunities to their students and classrooms.
