Matthew Hummel

Matt Hummel is in his eighth year of teaching at Delaware County Christian School in Newtown Square, PA, and has taught for ten years in total. Having previously taught middle school math and social studies, he shifted to high school and currently teaches AP U.S. History, honors U.S. History, college prep U.S. History, and a Modern American Issues elective. Additionally, Matt serves as the head of the history department, the lead teacher of the school Honor Committee, the JV boys basketball coach, and was named the most influential teacher by the graduating class of 2022. He received his B.S.Ed. and M.Ed. from West Chester University and is considering the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. or Ed.D. soon. In the classroom, Matt strives to build relationships with students and create an atmosphere where they are encouraged to ask questions and grow in their critical thinking ability. Outside the classroom, he recently married his beautiful wife, Kristin, and enjoys hiking, exercising, sports, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

The Educator of the Year Awards are presented annually to exemplary educators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preparing students for success in college and in life. These awardees model best practices in teaching or administration inside and outside of the classroom, are peer role models, and demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in education. Any NSHSS Educator teaching high school has the opportunity to apply.
