High School Alliance of Future Physicians Hosts Training Event for High Schoolers, Led by Medical Students & the U.S. Army
Simi Valley, California – The High School Alliance of Future Physicians (HSAFP) is excited to announce a special event for aspiring doctors to be held at the Royal High School in Simi Valley, California, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. This event, sponsored by MedSchoolCoach, will feature two dynamic sessions designed to empower high school students with insights and practical skills as they consider a career in medicine.
Session 1: Becoming a Doctor - Real Stories from Medical Students
Join us for an inspiring session with Kasha Chen, a fourth-year medical student at the California University of Science and Medicine. Kasha will share her journey through medical school, discuss essential preparations for aspiring medics, and answer your questions in an interactive Q&A session. Key topics will include:
- From High School to Pre-Med: Learn about the necessary steps and preparation needed
during undergraduate studies to apply to medical school. - Building a Strong Foundation: Discover key courses and extracurriculars critical for
standing out as a pre-med student. - The Balancing Act: Gain insights into managing academics, volunteer work, and personal
time to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Session 2: Get Hands-On with the U.S. Army’s Stop the Bleed
In partnership with the U.S. Army, participants will engage in a practical tourniquet course to learn critical emergency techniques. This hands-on training will cover:
- Pressure Application: Techniques for using hands to control bleeding.
- Wound Packing: Effective methods to stabilize a victim by stopping blood flow.
- Tourniquet Use: Proper and safe usage of tourniquets in emergencies.
