Waverly Hunag

Waverly is a senior at State College Area High School, PA. She is passionate about addressing social diversity, inclusivity, and fostering student leadership. Waverly serves as the Outreach Chair and mentor for the Peer Advocate Program. She is a member of the art club and National Art Honor Society, which involves visual projects to serve the community. Much of her work explores immigration and ancestry. She advocated for inclusivity through her painting published in the New York Times. Waverly founded YouthLead, a volunteer service team that raised funds for a local senior nursing home. She also held an art contest named “Portrait for Your Teacher during Pandemic” and received entries from eight states and three countries. K-12 students participated in the contest by creating portraits of teachers who inspired them during the pandemic. In 2020, Waverly won the Congressional Art Competition. Her painting was displayed at the Capitol Building for one year. Passionate about providing children with opportunities, Waverly has also tutored English and Chinese for middle school students and taught art at the Happy Valley Chinese School. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, drawing portraits and cards for people, and hanging out with her friends.
