The GVI-NSHSS International Sustainable Development Scholarship 2018

Eligibility Requirements: NSHSS members age 15-17 and NSHSS members age 18 or older

About GVI:
GVI is an award-winning organization that tackles critical local and global issues by operating education and training programs on sustainable development projects around the world.

GVI's programs are run in partnership with reputable partners like Save The Children, WWF, The Red Cross, PADI, Project AWARE, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society and the National Parks of South Africa, Costa Rica, Seychelles, Mexico and Thailand, among others.

GVI also works with universities such as Duke, Stanford, Ohio State, Columbus State, Endicott and others providing service learning options for their students as part of a holistic internationalization strategy.

Formed in 1997, GVI has been operating award-winning programs for over two decades and over 25,000 participants have volunteered or interned. GVI consists of a vibrant group of friendly staff members who regard each other as family and passionately work together towards making a difference in the world.

Scholarship Award: Two completely funded merit-based scholarships valid for the value of a 2-week program on any GVI summer 2018 program.

One scholarship is for members age 15-17, and one scholarship is for members age 18 or older.

Four $500 merit-based scholarships valid on any of GVI's summer 2018 programs.

Two $500 scholarships are for members age 15-17, and two $500 scholarships are for members age 18 or older.

*The $500 scholarships will be awarded to the second and third place applicants in each age category.

Age 15-17: First place = Completely funded scholarship, Second place = $500 scholarship, Third place = $500 scholarship

Age 18 or older: First place = Completely funded scholarship, Second place = $500 scholarship, Third place = $500 scholarship

Application Requirements:

  • A personal statement of 500 words is response to the following: What are your motivations for volunteering overseas, what do you foresee to be the biggest challenges you will face and how do you hope your experience will affect your outlook once you return home?
  • Resume (may be copied and pasted or uploaded)
  • Transcript (may be uploaded, mailed, or emailed)
  • Educator Recommendation (submitted via online form; link provided in application)
  • Principal and counselor's name and email address (High School Students Only)
  • Name and address of your school
  • Color headshot suitable for website posting

*All NSHSS members will receive 10% off of GVI programs (maximum of $500 USD). Note that these discounts cannot be combined with a scholarship. Be sure to inform GVI of your membership in NSHSS. Members applying for the discount must do so a minimum of 60 days prior to the program start date.
