Mr. Shawn Mitchell is an educator dedicated to the success of all students in the public and private education sectors. He believes in improving and advancing quality education systems by supporting a mission to be safe, effective, and equitable. Mr. Mitchell believes that we have some of the most talented educators and students in the nation, demonstrated through objective, data-driven measures to improve inclusivity as we strive to enhance learning for every child.
Mr. Shawn Mitchell is employed with Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland. He has been a dedicated educator for over 20 years and has a vested interest in his local and regional community. Mr. Mitchell holds a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate in Chemistry. He has an aptitude for leadership instruction, policy adjudication, and community involvement with all stakeholders vested in K-12 improvement and advancement. His educational accomplishments include a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Hampton University and a Master of Science in Education from Walden University. His passion for fostering and helping every child reach their full potential is always on display in and out of the classroom.

The Educator of the Year Awards are presented annually to exemplary educators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preparing students for success in college and in life. These awardees model best practices in teaching or administration inside and outside of the classroom, are peer role models, and demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in education. Any NSHSS Educator teaching high school has the opportunity to apply.
