Nobel Week Tour 2021

This once-in-a-lifetime educational experience is one you don't want to miss. Each year, a group of NSHSS members travels to Stockholm, Sweden in December to celebrate our organization's Nobel roots. Join us this year for our return to Sweden!

During the Nobel Week tour, you'll:

  • Experience the Nobel legacy first-hand
  • Explore Stockholm, Sweden: a world hub for sustainability and STEM research
  • Learn about Swedish society and culture
  • Expand your horizons and independence through international travel

READ BEFORE REGISTERING❗

→ VACCINATION REQUIREMENT
NSHSS Academic Tours are available to participants who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date and have proof of vaccination. 

Proof of vaccination, as follows, will be required at tour check in:

Original vaccination record issued by the country’s health authority that administered the vaccination (i.e., U.S. CDC's Vaccination Record Card). Copies or photos are not accepted.

The name and birth date on the vaccination record must match the participant’s travel documents and show the participant is fully vaccinated. The vaccination dates must indicate the participant has completed the required doses no later than 14 days prior to the tour start date. Vaccine type, dates administered, and lot numbers must be clearly visible.

Participants are strongly encouraged to review their vaccination records and ensure they meet our standards, prior to traveling to the starting point of the tour to prevent a situation where they may not be able to participate in the tour.

→ All travelers on this tour MUST be 16 years of age or older.

→ Travelers on this tour should book their incoming flights on December 4 and outbound flights no earlier than December 11, as program activities run from December 5-10. NSHSS Tours staff will coordinate pickups and drop-offs at Stockholm Arlanda Airport on those dates only. Any tour participants who would like to arrive early or extend their stay will be responsible for booking their own additional accommodations.

→ ​All NSHSS travelers are required to agree to the official Booking Conditions before departing on tour.

→ $150 deposit is NONREFUNDABLE, but will be put towards total fee.
Flights are NOT included in program fee.

Arrive in Stockholm 

Evening: Orientation meeting at the Generator Hostel

Sunday, December 5  
Meet in hostel lobby NO LATER THAN 9:00 AM 

Morning: Visit to the Christmas market at the outdoor museum Skansen  

Lunch on your own 

Afternoon: Guided tour of Stockholm City Hall, housing the Stockholm City Council and ceremonial halls where the Nobel Banquet takes place every year 

Evening: Dinner on your own and free time 

 

Monday, December 6  
Meet in hostel lobby NO LATER THAN 9:00 AM 

Morning lectures at Stockholm University: program introduction, lecture on Alfred Nobel and the history of his prizes 

Lunch provided at Stockholm University student canteen 

Afternoon: campus tour at Stockholm University and lecture on contemporary Sweden 

Evening: Dinner on your own and free time 

  

Tuesday, December 7 
Meet in hostel lobby NO LATER THAN 9:00 AM 

Morning: Lecture at Stockholm University on international diplomacy 

Lunch provided at Accelerator Art Space 

Afternoon: Visit Karolinska Institutet, the medical university that hosts the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology 

Evening: creative session at the Generator Hostel, where you’ll create your own Swedish souvenir 
Dinner provided 

  

Wednesday, December 8  
Meet in hostel lobby NO LATER THAN 9:00 AM 

Morning: Visit to the Nordic Museum, focusing on “The Arctic – while the ice is melting” exhibit 

Lunch provided at the museum 

Afternoon: Train to nearby city of Uppsala and walking tour of historic sites 

Evening: Dinner on your own and free time 

  

Thursday, December 9 

Morning: COVID-19 tests for US re-entry requirements 

Lunch TBD 

Afternoon: light reception at the residence of the US Ambassador to Sweden, featuring a panel discussion on diplomacy and a reception 

Dinner on your own 

  

Friday, December 10: Nobel Day!
Meet in hostel lobby NO LATER THAN 10:00 AM 

Morning: Visit to the Nobel Prize Museum  

Lunch TBD 

Afternoon: Visit the Old Town of Stockholm 

Evening: a very special Nobel dinner and our own Nobel Ceremony 
Dinner provided 

 

Saturday, December 11 

Travel back home or extend your trip
