Newcastle University is one of the best in the world, ranking in the top 1% of universities. We have a long history of teaching dating back to 1834 and are a member of the elite Russell Group, an association of leading research intensive universities commonly regarded as the UK's version of the Ivy League.
We are ranked top of the Russell Group for student satisfaction, alongside the University of Oxford, and are proud of what we have to offer as both a university and a city. Our reputation for academic excellence, high graduate employability, and an amazing student experience attracts students from all over the globe; we currently have 23,000 students from more than 135 different countries studying with us and are looking for the brightest and best to join our diverse and international community.
Life at Newcastle
We have a beautiful 50-acre city centre campus, with a mix of traditional red-brick buildings and contemporary classics as well as lots of green spaces for relaxation. There is an ongoing programme of investment in our facilities. Brand new buildings like our £35 million student services building, £8 million refurbishment of the student’s union, and our £4.5 million music studios are the most obvious signs of this but throughout campus you can enjoy newly refurbished laboratories, lecture theatres, and computing suites.
Our campus is located in the North East of England in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, officially the UK’s happiest city (according to the European Commission 2016). Famously fun-loving and infectiously friendly, Newcastle is one of those places where you instantly feel at home, plus the low cost of living makes it ideal for students. A big city in a compact space, Newcastle offers all the excitement of a modern metropolis combined with small-town friendliness. We have a vibrant bar and restaurant scene, as well as world-class arts, music, shopping, and sport right in the city centre, and we’re just 25 minutes from beautiful beaches via the Metro rail system. Getting to Newcastle is easy, whether you fly into Newcastle International Airport or take a train to Newcastle Central Station. We are less than three hours by train from London and 90 minutes from Edinburgh.
Newcastle University is proud to be working in partnership with The National Society of High School Scholars.
