UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of UC Berkeley, the number one public university in the world. Through our International Programs office, we offer international high school graduates, undergraduate-, graduate-level students, and working professionals access to Berkeley-quality academics. Program offerings range from university preparation, to UC Berkeley coursework, to professional certificates.

Our Programs 

College Preparation

College Foundations Program: Students who have recently completed high school take part in an immersive experience over a semester or full year. Focus on exam preparation and college admissions advising while taking rigorous academic coursework.

Requirements: High school diploma. TOEFL: 80 (iBT) or IELTS Academic Format: 6.5
Program Length: 4-8 months
Start Dates: January or August

 

Semester- or Year-Long Study at UC Berkeley

Berkeley Haas Global Access Program (business/entrepreneurship): Semester- or year-long entrepreneurship program for undergraduate or graduate students focusing on business topics; courses are taken at the #2 business school in the U.S. Participants also gain exposure to Silicon Valley companies and may participate in internships and apply for OPT work visas.

Requirements: TOEFL: 90 or IELTS Academic Format: 7 or TOEIC: 900
Program Length: 1–2 semesters (4–8 months)
Start Dates: January or August

Berkeley Legal Studies Global Access Program (law): One-semester program with courses at the top-ranked law school on the fundamentals of U.S. law, entrepreneurship, and legal change to intellectual property law, international law, and business law. (Open to undergraduates and those who have recently completed their bachelor’s degree.)

Requirements: TOEFL: 90 or IELTS Academic Format: 7 or TOEIC: 900
Program Length: 1 semester (4 months)

College of Environmental Design Global Access Program (architecture): One-semester program focusing on architecture, city planning/urban studies, and landscape architecture. Architecture Program is ranked #4 in the world by QS Ranking. (Undergraduates only)

Requirements: TOEFL: 90 or IELTS Academic Format: 7 or TOEIC: 900
Program Length: 1–2 semesters (4 months)
Start Dates: January or August

BGA Discover (most academic subjects): Semester- or year-long program allowing undergraduate and graduate students to take UC Berkeley courses. Explore a variety of subjects based on your academic interests. UC Berkeley is ranked the #1 public university in the world by Shanghai Ranking.

Requirements: TOEFL: 90 (iBT) or IELTS Academic Format: 7 or TOEIC: 900
Program Length: 1–2 semesters (4–8 months)
Start Dates: January or August

BGA-Start (English language preparation): One-semester program for undergraduate and graduate students with intermediate English-language skills. Focus on improving English and test-taking skills to become eligible for any Berkeley Global Access program.

Requirements: TOEFL: 80 (iBT) or IELTS Academic Format: 6.5 or TOEIC: 700
Program Length: 1 semester (4 months)

Professional Certificates

International Diploma Programs (business certificates): Intensive 4- to 12-month certificates focused on business topics. Open to 4th-year undergraduate students, graduate students and working professionals. Includes options to participate in internships at U.S. companies and apply for OPT work visas.

Program Length: 4–12 months
Start Dates: January, August, May

Evening Certificate Programs (certificates, various subjects): Adults who have completed their undergraduate degree take evening courses alongside U.S. professionals. Courses are available in a broad range of career-focused fields such as graphic design, human resource management, etc.

Requirements: Undergraduate degree, TOEFL: 79 or IELTS Academic Format: 6.5
Program Length: 9 months–1 year. (Exception: Interior Design and Interior Architecture is a 3-year program.)
